Kevin Semans, Director of Sports Medicine, ATC
Kevin provides a full array of expertise in athletic rehabilitation. Through his 15-year career, he has treated a wide variety of patients, including professional athletes. Before coming to the Sports Medicine Center of Utah, Kevin worked for two seasons with the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA as head athletic trainer. His career has also included working for Bountiful Physical Therapy where he was responsible for outpatient orthopedic patients as well as the players of the Utah Jazz.
Kevin currently provides athletic training at Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City, UT and provides athletic training for the Bountiful High School soccer team. Other responsibilities include coordination of sporting events and sponsorships throughout the Salt Lake Valley.
Kevin's primary interest of care lies in the physical therapy of injured athletes of all sports. Kevin is an avid cyclist and skier. He currently serves on Brighton Ski Patrol at Brighton Ski Resort. He has numerous years experience in treating skiers and cyclists, as well as athletes from all sports. He also has 15 years experience in aquatic pool therapy.
Kevin earned his B.S. in Biology at the University of Tennessee, where he also later received his Athletic Training Certification.
Carmela Nielsen, P.T.
A native of Israel, Carmela brings years of physical rehabilitation experience to The Sports Medicine Center of Utah. She graduated with a physiotherapy degree from the School of Physiotherapy in Israel. In 1960, she moved to the United States and later attended the University of Utah, where she earned her Masters degree in Mideast Studies.
Carmela has worked for various organizations, including Shriner's Hospital for Children and LDS Hospital. Her primary interest of care lies in the dance and ballet arena. She currently provides therapy for many of the dancers and ballerinas at Ballet West, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe Woodbury Dance Company and at the University of Utah.
Gladys Ross, P.T.
Gladys brings comprehensive physical therapy experience to The Sports Medicine Center of Utah. A native of Long Island, New York, she attended Columbia University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree and Certificate in Physical Therapy. She has worked for many healthcare organizations, including Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital.
Her primary interests of care include back and neck injuries, as wells as post-surgical shoulder, ankle and knee rehabilitation.
