Sally M. Askins, DPT

Dr. Askins received her undergraduate degree and her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Utah. As an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist, Dr. Askins specializes in the treatment of most orthopedic conditions. She has a strong manual therapy background for treatments of the peripheral joints and the spine.
Dr. Askins works closely with the Real Salt Lake MLS soccer team and Solitude Ski Resort, and also provides physical therapy services for high school and college athletes in the Sandy area. In her spare time, Dr. Askins is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing, golfing and fly-fishing.
Trina Bellendir, MSPT

Trina received her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Trina began her career in a Colorado hospital working with neurological and pediatric patients. She then expanded her experience at an orthopedic spine clinic, where she worked with patients recovering from spine, knee and shoulder injuries.
In 2001, Trina relocated to Utah, where she has continued specializing in outpatient physical therapy. Recently, she received her certification in lymphedema therapy. She also works closely with a few local dance studios, including Ballet West, Odyssey Dance and Repertory Dance Theater.
Collin K. Bywaters, DPT, OCS

Originally from Lake Oswego, Oregon, Dr. Bywaters earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Westminster College and his doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Utah.
Board certified as a clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy (OCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, Dr. Bywaters has more than 14 years of experience in structural integration (Rolfing). He combines his extensive training in deep soft tissue mobilization, myofascial approaches and contemporary physical therapy techniques with his own experience as a competitive athlete to enhance patient care. With an emphasis on evidence-based medicine, Dr. Bywaters helps his patients to alleviate pain, restore motion, regain strength and enhance function by using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach.
In his spare time, Dr. Bywaters coaches a competitive junior freeskiing team based in Alta, a team that he has coached since 1996. He also works with the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) as part of their didactic educational and certification staff. Dr. Bywaters is also an avid cyclist, enjoying both mountain and road riding.
Lauri Colosimo, PT

Lauri attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., and the University of Utah, where she received her undergraduate degree in community health and physical therapy.
Lauri began her career gaining health care experience in orthopedic care, outpatient and inpatient care, and home health care. Working with physicians who specialize in OB/GYN and urological issues, Lauri developed and implemented a women’s health physical therapy program that focused on stress/urge incontinence, fecal incontinence, pelvic floor pain and dysfunction, interstitial cystitis and obstetric issues, including, but not limited to, sacroiliac joint (SI) dysfunction, headaches, rib pain and pubic symphysis separation.
In 2002, Lauri joined Salt Lake Regional to continue her work in women’s health care. She has since advanced her program to include men’s health care, providing effective treatments for conditions related to prostatitis, post-prostatectomy issues and other pelvic floor pain/dysfunctions.
Whitney Hull, PTA

Whitney is a licensed physical therapist assistant (PTA), having graduated from the PTA program at the Pima Medical Institute in Denver, Colo.
With a background in outpatient orthopedic therapy, sports medicine and sub-acute rehabilitation, Whitney assists physical therapists in Salt Lake Regional’s Acute Rehabilitation Department, including hands-on aquatic therapy. She has experience in helping patients of all ages (children to seniors) recover from neuromuscular conditions, orthopedic issues, sports-related injuries and chronic pain. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys living in and exploring Salt Lake City, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kunzer, DPT, ATC

Dr. Kunzer earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training from the Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., and worked closely with the women’s soccer and volleyball athletic programs on campus. She earned her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Utah.
Prior to joining Salt Lake Regional, Dr. Kunzer worked in a private practice and also served as a physical therapist for skilled nursing and transitional care. She has experience in orthopedics, acute oncology, chronic disease, and balance and fall prevention. Dr. Kunzer truly enjoys providing physical therapy services and helping patients achieve their goals. In her spare time, Dr. Kunzer enjoys running, biking, skiing, yoga, cooking and baking.
Katie Peterson, PT
Physical Therapy
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Katie is the director of rehabilitation services at Salt Lake Regional. She earned her undergraduate degree in physical therapy at the University of Utah. Katie also participated in affiliations in San Diego, Honolulu and Vail, where she worked with renowned doctors and physical therapists, focusing on orthopedic rehabilitation.
Katie has extensive experience in knee and shoulder rehabilitation from the Utah Center for Sports Medicine. She also worked at Applegate, a home health company, treating patients who were deconditioned from a variety of ailments as well as patients recovering from surgery. Katie also worked at the Snowbird Ski Resort’s Medical Clinic.
For five years, she has organized and chaired the advisory board at the University of Utah Physical Therapy Department. For the past ten summers, she has also successfully run athletic camps for kids from her home office. In her spare time, Katie enjoys running, biking, skiing and spending time with her husband and children.
Ted Sexton, MPT

Ted is a physical therapist with more than 17 years of experience, 14 of which he has specialized in outpatient physical therapy. His extensive experience includes effectively treating patients with neuromuscular diseases; Parkinson’s disease; traumatic brain injuries (TBIs); cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs); fibromyalgia; lumbar, thoracic and cervical pain; sports injuries (specializing in golf); temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ); and headaches. In addition, he also treats patients requiring wheelchair evaluations, surgical rehabilitation, prosthetics and workers’ compensation.
Ted is originally from New York and graduated from a physical therapy school in Buffalo, N.Y.
Tracie Sexton, MS, CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathology
Tracie is a certified speech language pathologist with more than 15 years of experience. She holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, as well as a Utah state speech language pathology professional license. Tracie received her undergraduate degree in communication disorders, and her master’s degree in speech language pathology, from Utah State University.
Tracie has primarily treated adults challenged with a variety of communication, cognitive and swallowing impairments — including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive deficits and dysphagia. In both inpatient and outpatient settings, she has treated patients suffering from acquired deficits (such as head injuries and strokes) as well as patients suffering from degenerative diseases (such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis— also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia). Tracie has a passion for helping others communicate and think more effectively and finds true joy in each patient’s progress and success.
Thad VanDenBerghe, ATC-L
Athletic Trainer
Thad is Salt Lake Regional’s primary clinical athletic trainer, helping patients recover from a wide variety of sports-related injuries. He also serves as an active athletic trainer for SportsMedUtah .
Thad earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in sport pedagogy — which will enable him to teach physical education, coach, focus on strength and conditioning, and specialize in sport psychology.
Throughout his five year career, Thad has gained experience in rehabilitating athletes at all levels — from elementary school and college sports, to recreational, professional and Olympic sports.
Thad has worked with several university athletic teams, including men’s and women’s track and field, Nordic and alpine ski teams, and the University of Utah football team. He also works with several local professional dance companies, including Ririe-Woodbury, Repertory Dance Theater, Odyssey Dance Company and the University of Utah Departments of Ballet and Modern Dance. In his spare time, Thad enjoys rock climbing, snowboarding, marathon running and hanging out with his daughter.
