The Center for Precision Joint Replacement: Hips, Knees, and Shoulders
Salt Lake Regional Medical Center is the proud home of the Center for Precision Joint Replacement, established in 2011 by board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Aaron Hofmann. The Center is a leader in advanced surgical technologies and the only hospital in the state of Utah to offer MAKOplasty® hip arthroplasty and MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing.
MAKOplasty® for Hips
MAKOplasty® offers patients with severe osteoarthritis of the hips a superior alternative to traditional hip replacement. Prior to the procedure, the surgeon orders a CT scan, which is used to create a 3-D model of the hips. On the day of the procedure, the surgeon uses the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System and the 3-D model to optimally place a patient-specific hip implant. Most patients experience less pain, smaller incisions, and a quicker recovery. Many patients are able to walk the same day.
MAKOplasty® for Knees
Individuals with early- to mid-stage osteoarthritis in one or two of the knee’s three compartments may be candidates for the MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing procedure. Prior to the procedure, the surgeon orders a CT scan, which is used to create a patient-specific implant. During the surgery, degenerative bone tissue is removed and the patient-specific implant is optimally placed to ensure maximum comfort and life. Most patients experience less pain, smaller incisions, and a quicker recovery. Many patients are able to walk the same day.
