Welcome
For many women, having a baby is their first experience as a patient in a hospital. It is important that you and those who share this special time with you are comfortable in the hospital surroundings and know what to expect.
Perinatal Services
Perinatal Services is comprised of three areas of care: Labor and Delivery (where the birth takes place), Maternal Infant (where you will reside until you go home) and the Newborn Nursery.
Labor and Delivery has eight newly remodeled private suites which feature:
- Tubs and showers
- An adjustable birthing bed
- State-of-the-art monitoring for the baby and mother during labor
- 24-hour-a-day anesthesia services
- Cesarean birth suites
Your baby will be attended to immediately after birth by our staff. Generally, your baby will stay in the room with you while our skilled nurses offer your baby the care he or she requires.
During that same time, you will be recovering from delivery, and we will be carefully monitoring your vital signs, comfort level and personal care needs. After one or two hours, you will be transferred to your postpartum room around the corner from your labor room.
Perinatal Services
The Maternal Infant unit has private suites for new mothers. We strive to provide privacy for all of our patients and their loved ones during this special time.
Nursery Services
Our nursery is well-equipped to care for your new arrival. If you haven’t selected a physician, a Salt Lake Regional Medical Center pediatrician will be available to see your baby. After discharge, you can continue to see this physician for your child’s care or you may choose another physician.
Safety
During your stay with us, your baby’s safety is one of our top priorities. We installed the HUGS Infant Protection System to safeguard our infant patients. Each infant wears a small tag around the ankle that contains a tiny microchip. The tag sends a regularly timed message, called a Heartbeat, to indicate that the baby is in a secure area. These messages are relayed to a control computer for constant supervision.
Skype
We are equipped with Skype, which offers free video calling, so now your loved ones can visit you and your new family member in the hospital, even if they are miles away.
Interpreters
We provide interpreters for patients or guests who speak or understand limited English or for those who are hearing impaired. If you or someone in your party needs an interpreter, please ask your nurse.
Chapel
Salt Lake Regional Medical Center’s historic chapel is located on the second floor. Patients and their families are welcome to visit the chapel at any time. Built in 1904, this chapel served the Holy Cross Hospital founded in 1875 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
Spiritual Care
We partner with community churches to provide our guests with volunteer chaplaincy services. Please feel free to ask your nurse to arrange pastoral care visitation if you are interested. Be sure to notify the nurse of your religious preference, if any.
