Emergency room visits, hospital admissions and death due to asthma is increasing. This is due to the lack of correct diagnosis and treatment of asthma.
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the National Heart & Lung Institute have published guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. The pulmonologists & Respiratory Care Services follow these quidelines in the management & education of persons with asthma.
Asthma Education teaches the person with asthma about medications and their correct use, how to monitor themselves at home, and how to minimize those irritants that cause “asthma attacks.”
The pulmonologists at Salt Lake Regional provides an individualized “Asthma Care Plan” that gives detailed instructions on what do when changes occur.
The goals Asthma Education and Asthma Care Plan are to minimize hospitalizations, length of stay and emergency room visits.
